PWIMThough PWIM is a poster-based literacy unit. This is where I frequently incorporate science and social studies concepts.
Here is this month's PWIM poster Vocabulary: Here are the words the students chose for our vocabulary based on what they see in the poster.
mom house baby water dad dog soap bath bubbles hose flip flops belt Social Studies: We will focus on taking care of pets. It can be a big job, but a fun one! Home Activity: Do you have a pet? How can your child help care for your pet? |
LiteracyOur focus for our group literacy right now is on the months of the year and the accompanying seasons. We will talk about the number of days in each month, events and holidays that happen in each month, and the seasons and weather we experience in each month. We work on this skill every morning during our calendar time by singing (and dancing) our months song. See if your student can do the song and dance for you!
Home Activity: Download the PDF below and see if your child can cut out the months and glue them in the correct order. They may need your help with the scissors and with reading some of the months. Encourage them to use our months song to help them complete this activity.
Another activity you can do with your child is to have them help you fill in important dates (birthdays, holidays, etc) in your own calendars at home.

MathWe are focusing on two math statements right now.
A missing number can be found by sequencing. Numbers always go in the same order, so if we leave one out, we can count in order to find the missing number. Home Activity: Help your child count items around the house or at the grocery store. Leave a number out and have them fill it in for you. You could also do this worksheet with your child.
A number represents a specific
quantity. A quantity is "how many." We are working on understanding there are different ways to represent numbers and one way is with quantities. Home Activity: When cleaning up with your child, ask them to pick up 5 cars, toys, blocks, books, etc. Can they pick up just 5, no more - no less? |
